Essential Fats

Essential fats, also called essential fatty acids, are called "essential" because the human body cannot synthesize them itself but has to get them from foods in order to survive. Fat molecules are a rich and lasting source of energy for the body and are crucial for losing weight1 and establishing health for they are the essential building blocks for our cells and ultimately organs.

Essential fats (Omega 3 and Omega 6) are vital for the human body for:
  • Losing weight2;
  • Increasing energy and stamina;
  • Reducing inflammation;
  • Strengthening the immune system;
  • Lowering the risk of cardiovascular disease, improve brain function;
  • Regulating organs and glands;
  • Improving digestion; and
  • Helping build strong bones and beautiful skin and speed recovery and healing.

There are many kinds of fats but only two essential ones: omega 3 and omega 6. All the other fats, the saturated fats and omega 9 (monounsaturated) are called non-essential because the body can produce them itself from sugars and starches.
We can get omega 3 from:
  • Green leafy vegetables,
  • Flaxseeds and
  • Cold water fish.

Omega 6 can be found in:
  • Nuts and seeds that are raw – not roasted – and soaked over night, as well as
  • Land animal flesh.
