I just came back from the 2nd World Culture Forum In Dresden/Germany where I was on a panel discussing whether the new media (i.e. ipod, Internet, mobile phones etc.) are contributing to our cultural education in a positive way or not. I was quite surprised to learn how difficult it still is for many Germans - especially the middle to old aged ones - to allow these new media into their lives in a way that is enriching, positive, and contributes to global inter-connectivity between people.

Well, this was one of the main reasons why I embarked on a scientific research quest more than eight years ago. Since then I have studied over hundred of the most successful dieters, which are people that have kept their ideal weight for more than five years.

I just returned from a weekend retreat with the most renowned experts on gratitude, Brother David Steindl-Rast. I cannot tell you how meeting this living saint has changed my life and I decided to support his work by becoming a guardian of gratitude myself. Therefore, I have added the Gratefulness.Org to the organizations that we are supporting with your help.

Cultivating Gratitude (Mariana Bozesan)

Having grown up in communist Romania with very little food and clothing let alone personal freedom, I have grown to appreciate the smallest thing that life has offered me along the way. Thirty years ago, my parents and I managed to leave Romania to immigrate to Germany and all we were allowed to take with us were two very small suitcases. Although our material life began for us at ground zero again we were able to build a new existence in a foreign country. My parents found jobs and I was able to get an excellent education. Therefore, we have grown to be full of gratitude to Germany, a country with wonderful people who welcomed us and helped us build a new existence, so we can now help others.
