Introduction

by Mariana Bozesan

The photo on Byron Katie’s first book Loving What Is attracted me like a magnet. So when she visited Munich, Germany, I had to drive all the way from Salzburg, Austria, where I lived at the time, to meet her. Only minutes into the seminar I found myself beginning to cry because she spoke universal truth that touched not only me but everyone in the audience of a couple of hundred people. In her presence one can just feel all defenses drop away, and the ability to face the truth of who you are arises.

At the first break during the seminar I was moved to approach her, even though she was still on stage. After introducing myself to her through my tears of gratitude she did the most surprising thing: she reached out and kissed my hand. Her humbleness is unlimited. She is all about serving the higher good. She is about love and selflessness. She is one of the warmest and most selfless human beings I have ever met. I felt totally energized by her, and when she agreed to be one of Sageera’s contributors, I was thrilled.

Thus, you will benefit enormously from her teachings because in them there are no “shoulds" or “shouldn’ts." Divinely inspired through a personal crisis, Katie—as she is being called—has developed a system of four simple questions and a way of turning around the responses to those questions. These four questions lead us to the core of life’s wisdom and simple truths, no matter what we are dealing with in life.

Thus, become emotionally whole and learn how to “love what is" with Byron Katie.

What Is Is

The greater part of our happiness or misery depends on our dispositions and not our circumstances.
—Martha Washington

The only time we suffer is when we believe a thought that argues with what is. When the mind is perfectly clear, what is is what we want. If you want reality to be different than it is, you might as well try to teach a cat to bark. You can try and try, and in the end the cat will look up at you and say, Meow. Wanting reality to be different than it is is hopeless. The only time we suffer is when we believe a thought that argues with what is. When the mind is perfectly clear, what is is what we want. Staying in Your Own Business
Reality is God, because it rules.

I can find only three kinds of business in the universe: mine, yours and God’s. (For me, the word God means “reality.” Reality is God, because it rules. Anything that’s out of my control, your control and everyone else’s control — I call that God’s business.)I can find only three kinds of business in the universe: mine, yours and God’s.
