Wolfe Your Food! Sure way to lose weight with raw food

"To eat is a necessity, but to eat intelligently is an art."
- La Rochefoucauld

by Mariana Bozesan

Influential raw food expert David Wolfe is fond of pointing out that a healthy body naturally finds its perfect weight, while unhealthy bodies in our culture tend to be overly heavy and lacking in energy. How do we find this natural weight? Wolfe says we need to eat more high quality, unprocessed and uncooked natural foods. While this, he says, is single most important step we can take in weight loss, his other ideas are proving just as useful.

Eat Less
Human beings have 30 to 35 feet of highly specialized digestive tubing running from our mouths all the way down to the eliminative end, but it tends to get clogged and compromised over the years due to the poor quality and excessive quantity of the food that we eat. While he insists we eat enough to feel satiated in order to keep the metabolism high, Wolfe points out that eating less processed foods not only leds us to shed pounds, but gives our digestive systems a chance to recover and regenerate to a point where it can operate much more efficiently.

Eat More Liquid Foods - Juicing
Another of Wolfe’s favorite strategies to support weight loss is to eat less solid foods and drink more liquid foods. Wolfe points out that drinking fruit and vegetable smoothies with superfood additions such as spirulina, bee pollen and powdered grasses can be an incredibly effective way to begin restoring ourselves to health. He also notes that this type of food provides amazing nutritional support in the morning.

To begin with, Wolfe suggests starting out with juices that are more inviting, sweeter, softer and easier, after which it's possible to move toward things that are more medicinal and chlorophyll-rich, such as the more bitter vegetables that help expedite detoxification. Wolfe reminds us of Dr. Bernard Jensen's motto: "When you're green on the inside you are clean on the inside."

Cleanse & Detoxify
Wolfe is known for frequently and passionately drawing attention to the fact that fasting has always been part of religious practice on our planet as a way of healing, focusing, and connecting with a higher power or plane of consciousness. When we fast, he says, our body has time to rest and clean house, while many people also report gaining access to a kind of mental and spiritual clarity that is unavailable while eating solid foods. Fasting is also an excellent way to help our bodies rid themselves of toxins that accumulate throught the course of normal, everyday living.

Though raw food pioneers like Wolfe needed several years to figure out the most effective ways of cleansing the toxins from their bodies, he points out that today this process can be reduced to a couple of months. imageA number of different herbal cleansing systems can help us get rid of the thick buildup in our digestive systems—also known as "mucoid plaque" (please see photo1)—as well as the bacteria and parasites that reside in it. Wolfe recommends the EJUVA Intestinal Cleanse because it is made of organic herbs and is 100 percent raw. Another way to detoxify is to attend a cleansing program or retreat, such as those offered by Dr. Gabriel Cousens in Patagonia, Arizona. Water & Sauna
Wolfe suggests that drinking more purified water and eating more raw foods—which have a high water content—is an easy way to cleanse our bodies and flush out toxins, many of which are water soluble. This hydration can be complemented by going to a sauna where accumulations of bad oils can exit the body through sweat. Wolfe also reminds us that good oils can strongly assist in the cleansing of improper, bad ones. Avocados, olives, flaxseeds, hempseeds and coconuts prompt a process called "chelation by replacement," or more simply put—pushing out the bad with the good.

Emotional & Spiritual Transformation
Wolfe observes that there is a direct relationship between what we eat and how we feel. While highly processed, oxygen-poor foods can clog our systems physically, he points out they can also affect us at the spiritual level as well, causing feelings of emotional heaviness, depression and deep attachment—even to the extra pounds we want to lose. But by eating closer to nature, says Wolfe, the juiciness and the buoyancy of the raw food allows us to lose this heaviness, both physically and spiritually. We let go not only of excess weight, but heavy, negative emotions as well.

Finally, The Big Picture
A healthy body, Wolfe observes, is vibrant, and has an abundance of energy and a "divine radiance" due to a steady supply of oxygen. Eating fresh, live, uncooked foods—foods that come directly from Mother Nature—can help us attain this healthy, vibrant glow, reverse many signs of aging, and help us feel more energetic than we have in years. But aside from the beauty-enhancing properties raw foods offer, Wolfe points out that this approach to food and nutrition holds the promise of bringing the very earth itself back into balance as well. While our efforts may begin on the individual level as a desire to lose weight, they can also create a larger demand for the kinds of fresh, healthy foods that can only come from fresh, healthy landscapes. As Wolfe puts it, "Once we purify ourselves on the inside, the world becomes a complete paradise."

David Wolfe has contributed various works, specifically in his books Eating for Beauty2 and The Sunfood Diet3, in teaching us how to preserve our bodies through eating healthy purifying foods that can ultimately enhance our lives well beyond what we may have thought possible.
