Scientific research shows that "breast cancer strikes over 200,000 women per year in the U.S. Diet and lifestyle account for most of the population risk for breast cancer. Using a model that compared many countries in terms of breast cancer mortality and dietary intakes, it was found that countries with the highest consumption of animal products and alcohol and the lowest consumption of fish had five times the risk of breast cancer compared to those countries with intakes at the other ends of the spectrum. While a proper diet and exercise can reduce the risk of breast cancer, an additional way to reduce the risk is to get plenty of vitamin D" from Dr. Grant's website

Furthermore "Colorectal cancer (colon and rectal cancer combined) is the third most frequent cancer in the U.S., with at least 120,00 new cases diagnosed per year. Dietary factors appear to play the most important role in the risk of colorectal cancer" from Dr. Grant's website.

Additionally, "Evidence continues to mount at an accelerating rate that vitamin D is a very important risk reduction factor for a variety of diseases, not only those associated with bone health, but also those associated with internal organs, brain development while still in the womb or in infancy, and the autoimmune diseases, and even for defense against tuberculosis. A search of PubMed was used to find the evidence relating to the beneficial role of vitamin D in maintaining optimal health" from Dr. Grant's website.

WHO IS Dr. BILL GRANT?

Since he began his work on UVB/vitamin D and cancer in 2000, the list of vitamin D-sensitive cancers has grown from 5 to over 20. His findings interested Harvard University in including solar UVB in their cohort studies, and the findings by Edward Giovannucci and coworkers have done much to convince many others that vitamin D is very important for cancer and other diseases. During 2006, the health community seems to have awakened to the fact that vitamin D is required for optimal health, and that at least 1000--2000 I.U. of vitamin D3 per day is indicated.

More recently, he has turned some attention to the role of vitamin D in reducing the risk of diseases linked to viral infections. He was a coauthor on a paper hypothesizing that the annual cycle of influenza is due, in part, to the annual cycle of solar UVB. This paper was supported by experimental results from a prospective double-blind placebo test shortly thereafter. This finding should have profound consequences. He has also submitted manuscripts showing how solar UVB and vitamin D very likely reduce the risk of gastroenteritis and septicemia. He has a background in environmental issues, and is also examining the roles of air pollution and agricultural herbicides in cancer risk as well.
