What can I do about my metabolism slowing down, especially as I age?

by Mariana Bozesan

It is true that in our society our metabolism slows down as we age, but it does not have to be that way. A slow metabolism is the result of being unhealthier, heavier and not exercising, not the other way around. Anyone who has been on an acid forming diet – which most of us are - will be carrying around extra weight that is slowing them down. A healthy, alkalizing diet allows the body to shed the excess weight and provides the body with energy which will increase the metabolism.

In addition, exercising is critical to increasing the metabolism. People tend to exercise less when they age for a variety of reasons. However, even those people who can not use their entire bodies for a complete exercise regime can find ways in order to move and keep fit. Walking is great exercise. If you have trouble with your legs, find a gym with a hand cycle or other equipment designed for upper body workouts. The important thing is to move.
