Vitamin D and Weight Loss

High Vitamin D levels in the blood correlate with leaner body mass.

It's important to take a vitamin supplement and to check your vitamin D levels.

Scientific studies performed over the past few years show that individuals with reduced levels of Vitamin D suffer more often from overweight than those with normal Vitamin D levels. In addition, clinical studies show that there is a correlation between high levels of Vitamin D and lean muscle mass. These studies are still in their infancy and researches don't really know yet how exactly Vitamin D affects our body chemistry in detail. However, what we do know is the relationship between Vitamin D and overweight. If you can't seem to keep the pounds off once you lose them - you may want to have your vitamin D levels checked by your healthcare professional.

In Diet for a New Life you can find many ways on how you can lose weight permanently by improving your intake of Vitamin D through body alkalization with green foods and green drinks, regular exercise and high-quality nutritional supplements (keep in mind that you have to take vitamin D with meals for it is not a water soluble vitamin). In addition,

  1. Go for a 30 minutes walk in nature every day and make sure you expose some of your skin to the light/sun. This ensures that your skin will absorb sufficient vitamin D to keep you healthy.

  2. Eat a diet rich in whole foods and complex carbohydrates and Udo's Oil. If you consume animal products make sure you eat nutrient-dense, fatty fish like mackerel and sardines which are good sources of vitamin D. Organic eggs, fortified organic milk and other dairy products, and some organ meats (like liver) are also natural sources of D. However, keep in mind that these products produce an acidic residue, which makes your body retain fat to neutralize the acid. Thus, don't eat too much of that if you want to loose weight or want to keep it off.

  3. Take a top-quality multi-vitamin every day to fill in any nutritional gaps, preferably one that includes essential fatty acids (EFA's). Your vitamin should have a minimum dose of 200 IU's of vitamin D and not exceed 1,000 IU's.

  4. Have your healthcare professional check your vitamin D levels. You want to see an optimal value of 50-100 ng/ml.

Most of all enjoy and celebrate your life today! Your body is a miracle!
