Is it safe to do Diet for a New Life while nursing my baby?

by Mariana Bozesan

Being a mother myself, I understand and sympathize with your question so well. The answer is that only your physician can tell you what is safe for you and your baby and what's not. Therefore, I would always highly recommend you consult with your doctor before embarking on any diet while you are nursing your baby, especially if it involves cleansing and fasting, such as the Diet for a New Life Program.

Having said that, I want to point out that the Diet for a New Life Program is not a typical diet but a lifelong lifestyle program to help you stay healthy, energized and fulfilled at all levels physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

During your nursing period, I would highly recommend you take care of yourself and especially of your baby by reducing your intake of acid producing foods. According to Dr. Robert O. Young acid forming foods cause the body to retain fat and deplete it of its minerals and vitamins. These acid forming foods are meat, dairy, processed foods of any kind, and desserts. Instead eat organic fresh foods such as dark green salads, legumes and vegetables.

Also avoid eating foods that can cause allergies and food reactions in you and your baby. According to Dr. Ellen Cutler most people are allergic to wheat, milk, sugar, peanuts, corn and eggs.

In addition, buy only organic foods where possible and read labels to make sure you do not ingest unnecessary chemicals. These are those names on food packages which you cannot pronounce and you never heard of. In addition, make sure you reduce your consumption of foods that have been irradiated or contain pesticides, herbicides, hormones, and other toxic chemicals. In his book The Food Revolution John Robbins explains at large what these chemicals are and what harm they do to the human body. Here I would like to list a few that you should always avoid but especially during nursing. Here are just a few of the facts from Mr. Robbins’ book:
  • Approximately 70 percent of American chickens and 90 percent of American turkeys are contaminated with campylobacter bacteria, which can easily cause disease.

  • To promote growth, more than 90 percent of U.S. beef cattle receive hormone implants that have been proven to cause cancer in humans.

  • U.S. livestock eats more than 24.6 million pounds of antibiotics per year.

  • About 95 percent of the human exposure to dioxin, one of the most carcinogenic chemicals in the world, comes from red meat, fish and dairy products.
Instead:
  1. Increase your consumption of green leafy vegetables (such as green salads, cucumbers, zucchini, etc.) to as much as 70 percent in each meal, thereby reflecting the makeup of our own body, which is more than 70% water.

  2. Consume more essential fats found in avocados, olive oils, flaxseed oils and other oil blends such as found in Udo’s Choice Perfected Oil Blend.

  3. Make sure to eat a variety of all food colors and tastes to get all possible nutrients, vitamins and minerals from the food directly.

  4. Supplement your daily nutrition with vitamins, minerals and enzymes for proper digestion and absorption.

  5. Apply the 70/30 rule which says that every time you eat something, you make sure to consume 70 percent alkalizing foods such as fresh and raw green leafy vegetables and salads and only 30 percent acid-forming foods such as organic meat, dairy, breads, etc.

  6. Always ensure that the food you consume is of the best possible source — organic and free of toxins.

Most of all consult with your physician, naturopath and nutritionist before applying any of the above, and

Enjoy Life and Your Precious Baby!!!
