The healing crisis occurs when the body is getting stronger and cleaner during the cleansing process. When we stop eating, our entire body realizes the amazing opportunity for cleansing and begins dumping all stored toxins into the bloodstream, intestines and other elimination organs.
Therefore, the healing crisis is actually a sign of progress and an unavoidable step on the way to healing. In his
Doctor-Patient Handbook, Dr. Bernard Jensen indicates: "By allowing the healing crisis to run its course and continuing to support the body to cleanse itself, we can purge ourselves of the latent seeds of past disease and disorder…the body becomes determined to remove them! When this healing crisis passes, health returns, more vibrant and invulnerable than ever…You earn this crisis through hard work. It comes through a sacrifice, giving up bad habits, taking a new path — cleaning up your act by replacing negative patterns with positive ones in your life, working within the laws of nature."
A healing crisis can be soft or harsh and it can come regularly in the process of restoring health, which sometimes can last over a period of several years. Some people get headaches or joint pains, some people get diarrhea, back pain or skin rashes, etc. Whatever it is, welcome it because it is a clear sign that your body is healing. Taking an enema, a hydrocolon therapy, going for a walk, taking a dry sauna or soaking in the bathtub will provide instant relief.
If uncomfortable conditions persist, consult with your naturopathic physician or your regular doctor if she or he is well versed in the process of cleansing.
